Request User Account
IMPORTANT NOTE: User accounts are required for access to archaeological site data; they are not required for access to
architectural records.
Full User Accounts
If you meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional
Qualification Standards for Archeology, you can receive a "full" account that allows you off-site (remote) as well as
in-Library access to the archaeological data. Submit an account request at the link below. You will be asked to agree to
the Terms and Conditions and then fill out a form with your contact information along with a brief description of your
qualifications and purpose. Once you submit the request and your account has been activated, you will be contacted by
email with your account details and password. Please allow up to two weeks for processing your request.
» SUBMIT FULL ACCOUNT REQUEST
If you believe you would not qualify for a "full" account but still need access to the archaeological data, have your supervising
archaeologist request a "proxy" account for you (see below).
"Proxy" Accounts
An archaeologist with a valid Medusa account can also request one or more "proxy" accounts for individual co-workers
or students who need access to the archaeological database for compliance or research projects. Typically proxies
are people who work for contract firms or who are students working under a professor's
guidance, and who may not meet the Secretary's Standards on their own. The "sponsoring" archaeologist can submit a
proxy request by logging into their account, selecting Manage Account in the upper right, and clicking on their
company in the Affiliation box. At the bottom of the Company Information screen there will be an
"Add a Proxy User" button. Note that the requesting archaeologist will need the proxy's name and email address,
and will need to agree to hold the proxy responsible to the same Terms and Conditions regarding disclosure of site
location.
Once the request is submitted and the proxy account has been activated by MHT staff, the proxy will
be contacted by email with his or her account details and password. Again, please allow up to two weeks for
processing your request. Normally proxies do not have remote access to Medusa, but will be able to use the system at the
MHT Library.

Once You Have Your Confirmation Email
After you get an email with your user name (the email address you registered under) and password, you may start using
the system. If you have a "full" account, you can enter Medusa from any computer and click on the Log In button in the
upper right. For proxy or other in-Library use of Medusa, please email or call
Lara Westwood (lara.westwood@maryland.gov, 410-697-9546) to schedule an appointment. The library is open to the public on
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Please remember your password (you will need it to log on at the Library) and
bring a flash drive or something to store your data.
